It feels bananas that Valentine’s day is already here again! Last year on Valentine’s Day I was in the middle of PA school clinical rotations and was driving with my mom and grandma from Colorado to Arizona. I had just finished a Pediatrics rotation in the Colorado mountains and was on my way to start a general surgery rotation in Phoenix. It’s insane how much has changed since then! This Valentine’s Day will be even more casual than last year for me and I imagine for many of you, too! I’ve rounded up my favorite casual Valentine’s Day looks for a cozy & classy night in.
LAST VALENTINE’S DAY
My mom, grandma and I have blast when we’re together. On the way to Phoenix last Valentine’s Day, we ate dove chocolate, got Chick-fil-A for lunch (necessary) and stopped in Pueblo to search for my great-great grandpa’s lost headstone (lol okay we’re cray). We ended the day in Albuquerque at the most amazing Mexican food restaurant, Mucho Gusto. I would say that’s a very accurate name!!
There we were, living in our pre-pandemic naive bliss eating in a restaurant! My mom ordered “The Bomb” — a chicken breast stuffed with cheese, sundried tomatoes, mushrooms and topped with cream and more cheese. My grandma and I ditched our food and begged my mom to share. Lol. If you are ever in Albuquerque, we 11/10 recommend!
Now I’m craving Mexican food. But on to fashion! 😀
I didn’t have a fashionable, color-coordinated Valentine’s look last year and then after that, things escalated quickly haha. It’s funny how my style and habits have changed over the course of the pandemic. There were days where I high-fived myself for washing my face, brushing my teeth, and putting on a clean pair of clothes. There were also days where I would go full glam on hair and makeup.
Right now, I find myself in a middle ground. I apply makeup, but am currently skipping foundation to let my face breathe. I found cute loungewear that makes being at home feel a little more elevated. Most importantly, I always, always, put on a pair of earrings — usually loud, bold earrings — and a lip gloss! My family would attest to this haha. There’s something about making my bed, putting on mascara, earrings and lipgloss (even if I’m headed to the couch to watch Netflix) that makes or breaks my attitude and productivity that day. Anyone feel the same?
SWEATERS:
I own both of these and they’re so cozy! I love the detailing that feels put together without looking cheesy. Although, I am always here for some Valentine’s Day cheesiness!
NAILS:
Red Aspen released Valentine’s Nails and they are gorgeous! Have you read this post about my nails? They are my favorite life hack: inexpensive, fast and easy to apply yourself, last up to 2 weeks, look like salon-quality gel or dip nails, come in so many cute colors and designs… I could go on!
EARRINGS:
I keep wanting to type “I’m in love with…” and then get annoyed with myself. But YOU GUYS. I am in love with these earrings!
All of the heart eye emojis for these!
Full disclosure. These hoops are huuuuge. But I think they’re gorgeous!
EYE SHADOW:
My love for Stila liquid eyeshadow runs deep! You can read all about why I love them in my post here, but just know they’re amazing! If you don’t have a lot of experience applying eyeshadow, this is for you. So simple to apply. Shimmery. Stunning. My one true love!
*I’ve linked to Amazon here, but I usually buy these at TJMaxx! Seriously! Check there first. I have also purchased these online from Nordstrom Rack. I’ll buy from Ulta or Sephora if they have a coupon.
LIP GLOSS:
Shine lip glosses are my fave. These shades are two of my most reached for. The left is “Admired” which has some shimmer to it. The right is “Bloom” — a gorgeous pink rose from a collab with Shine and @tarathueson. These are both perfect for Valentine’s day (and every day IMO!). Use code ALOHAHEATHER10 for 10% off the entire site!
There you have it! Wishing you all a wonderful and safe Valentine’s Day. Next year, we’ll talk glitz & glam, but for now I’ll very happily snuggle up with my Schnoodle on the couch for a chill night in. <3
